I’ve been working on this new Encaustic piece titled Redolence for The Encaustic Art Institute . My process for this piece was similar to others I have worked on. I started with a sketch of a face in charcoal and blew it up to fit the canvas. After adding many layers of wax onto the canvas, I transferred my charcoal design on top of the last layer of wax and then added more wax and poured shellac onto the piece for final touches.
Redolence" just took a first place ribbon at the Mt. Dora Art League show.
If you’re interested in checking the piece out in person, it will be in the permanent collection at The Encaustic Art Institute located in Santa Fe, NM. They will be putting on a wonderful exhibit running from July 13th - Sept 8th 2019 featuring 200 artists from 50 states. If you are interested in Encaustic this is definitely not a show to be missed.
